Fifty-seven years ago I fell in love with clay and have continued my exploration into its many variations. My work is both functional and sculptural, concerned with the interplay of form, texture and color. My creations are wheel-thrown and hand-built. The mystery and surprises of the fire is exciting; I use different firing processes employing electricity, gas and wood. Raku pieces are fired in a few hours and result in a soft black background with lustrous colors, while wood-firing is a long process (five days straight) resulting in unusual colors and textures.
